why do ABS-CBN fanatics always think that GMA fans are out to get them?

i posted this on the Panday message board on the IMDb.

this is really funny... and pathetic at the same time.

read my review on PBB, then read the other guy's review which is directly in answer to mine. bakit ba yung mga ABS fanatics eh feeling nila kinakawawa sila, kesyo panalo na daw ang GMA sa ratings eh mas lalo pa daw sila dina-down. tapos isa daw ako sa mga pinadala ng GMA para siraan ang ABS. meron din naman feeling nila kaya daw bumagsak sa ratings ang ABS is because of bad publicity and evil business tactics daw... eh mas matindi pa nga yung tyranny ni freddie garcia sa ABS noon ah!

di pa yata nila nababasa yung critisismo ko sa encantadia... bah, andami yatang nagalit sakin mga taga GMA dahil dun ah.

honestly, i pity these ABS freaks. di sila sport.

Somebody reacted...

...to my review. I just love it when that happens. Here she is:

I disagree with you Review, 9 December 2005

I strongly disagree with your review regarding Pinoy Big Brother. I think you are too shallow that you were not able to analyze what Pinoy Big Brother TV show is. You did not even asked the PBB management what is the objectives of the Big Brother.

For me, PBB is just a reflection of our attitude or character. It is a mirror where we can see our good and bad attitude. If you just watch them talking, you can say that it is just a trash. Its just like watching those neighborhood in slum areas or gossiping government employees. But look at the tasks, there are so many values you can learn every time they have tasks.

Your review is to shallow, can you please look deeper. I will not consider you a credible movie/TV reviewer. Or you are just one of those people sent by the other network to destroy ABS-CBN. I know they are afraid of ABS-CBN.

This is my answer:

Firstly, thank you for reacting. I just love it when somebody does. Unfortunately, you attacked one-sidedly, which meant that you made a review without giving me a chance to counter your flattery. I will do it here in my blog.

I strongly disagree with your review regarding Pinoy Big Brother. I think you are too shallow that you were not able to analyze what Pinoy Big Brother TV show is. You did not even asked the PBB management what is the objectives of the Big Brother.

You think I should ask the production team of PBB what they were trying to do on TV? Then if anybody was not able to understand what this PBB crap is all about, then they should not have bothered to make this show in the first place! As far as shallowness goes, I think i've explained my side on this all too well. I suggest you read my critique again.

For me, PBB is just a reflection of our attitude or character. It is a mirror where we can see our good and bad attitude.

However, it also teaches voyeurism to it's viewers, especially to the not-so-bright ones. Like you.

If you just watch them talking, you can say that it is just a trash. Its just like watching those neighborhood in slum areas or gossiping government employees. But look at the tasks, there are so many values you can learn every time they have tasks.

May I know which tasks you are talking about? Was it the one about burning the clothes? Was it about eating with the extra-large spoon and forks? I believe these tasks were put in there so as to make the program more interesting. The program itself is too boring anyway.

I will not consider you a credible movie/TV reviewer. Or you are just one of those people sent by the other network to destroy ABS-CBN. I know they are afraid of ABS-CBN.

To each his own, dude. but if you're going to make statements like these, you'd better back it up with evidence. Which words of mine made me incredible? If I was sent by ABS, could you back this up? Of course you can't! You are nothing but a bitter fan bacause you can't face facts... Facts hurt.

Etheria: IT’S NOT A PREQUEL (subtitled: a very big plot hole before it even begins!)

The essence of a ‘prequel’, as George Lucas brilliantly put it, is creating a back-story to the original; and Georgie never failed to do so with his beloved Star Wars series, which we all know that he created episodes 4, 5, 6 by the late 70’s and creating the first three episodes many years after. Even George had a bit of a hard time explaining the origins of the universes, how Darth Vader came to be, etc. And even after all of the hard work and difficulties he had to face creating the ‘prequels’ and making sure that every little detail is explained for continuity, there are many SW fans who love the originals and still dislike the new movies.

I recently watched the Mel & Joey special on the new fantasy soap opera GMA cooked up for its audience, which is Etheria, and I must say, instead of being excited about this supposed ‘prequel’ to the already confusing Encantadia, I simply sighed and shook my head in dismay. Firstly, the network finished their top-rating fantasy show open ended with a lot of questions still unanswered; and since watching a soap opera (whether it be a regular soap or superserye or fantaserye or whatever) is a complete waste of my precious time, I decided not to bother with it anymore.

Secondly, during the whole Mel & Joey episode, I kept on hearing the word ‘prequel’ from the new show’s directors and writers: ‘It’s a prequel’. ‘Prequel this’. ‘Prequel that.’ However, from what I learned from the episode, the story of Etheria will evolve around the four annoying bickering sisters of Encantadia traveling back in time, involving themselves in the affairs of past events. So is it a prequel? Believe me when I say that IT IS NOT.

A prequel is a back-story to the real events surrounding the original. Supposedly, what happens in this prequel should affect the sequel, and not the other way around. Confused already? You should be, because it really is hard to understand.

Let me put it this way: Let’s say Star Wars episodes 4, 5, 6. in order to make a prequel, they have to make episodes 1, 2, 3, right? Ok; supposing episodes 1, 2, 3 is in the making, should Luke Skywalker and Han Solo appear in episodes 1, 2, 3? Should the three of them (including Princess Leia) ride on a time machine and go back in time to meddle in the affairs of the Galactic Senate and the old Jedi Council? Clearly, Luke, Han, and Leia are very enigmatic characters, it would be such a waste in they will only sit back and watch the whole thing evolve before their eyes. Knowing Luke and Han, I’m sure they will be able to prevent the fall of Anakin Skywalker and the decline of the Old Republic. So, if ever episodes 1, 2, 3, were about Luke, Han, and Leia going back in time to prevent the rise of the empire, then the original episodes 4, 5, 6 would not have happened in the first place! That would mean that this supposed ‘prequel’ is not a prequel at all but rather a continuation of the original story.

As far as I can understand, Etheria was a kingdom in the past of the timeline of Encantadia. If ever Etheria was a prequel, it should concentrate upon the stories before the events on Encantadia. Unfortunately, this is not the case. The four fairy sisters of Encantadia will get to travel back in time to meddle in the events of their past. This is really funny… Because in the first place, if the Encantadia sisters did have time-travelling capabilities, why the heck didn’t they just go back in time and prevent the whole thing before it happened? They just wasted the lives of those that died in their war. The fairies are not exactly very bright, are they? This is precisely the reason why the time-travel gimmick was never a good idea for a plot twist.

Confused? Everybody should be, because those who cannot see such foolishness are foolish themselves. It is another marketing ploy to keep the high ratings intact.

Though I have lost faith in the storytelling abilities of the GMA writers, I am still crossing my fingers that the producers of the show would find a way to get their maze-confusing storylines back on track.

And don’t worry, GMA is still eons and eons away from the ‘Panday’ bull crap.
